Hearing Aids

Technology has come a long way. The hearing aids available today are incredible! They can make your quality of life so much better. And if you need a hearing aid, get it from a trained audiologist like those here at Associates in ENT. Our audiologist take time to visit with patients to make sure every option is thoroughly discussed based on that patients personal needs, including the style and color of the aid.

But when we talk about hearing aids, we must be clear about expectations. A hearing aid will not restore hearing or cause the inner ear to work again the way it used to. Hearing aids are amplifiers of sound.

We can talk about two types of hearing aids – Programmable and Conventional.

Conventional is the kind that has been around for years. It is analog and uses a microphone to increase sound volume which the user can adjust manually. You can also adjust tone, pitch and output.

Programmable aids can be one of two kinds. A digital programmable is an analog style that comes with digital components that can be used to supply memory for certain settings. A fully digital hearing aid processes sound within a sound processor.

As with anything, we want you to research and know as much as you want to about hearing aid products and their abilities. But you first have to have an audiologist that you trust. That is the person who will guide you through the discussion of options and assist you in putting together your list of needs as regards a new hearing aid.

If you would like to make an appointment to meet with one of our audiologists you can trust, call us at 423-209-9111.
